Book Proposal Guidelines
If you are interested in proposing a book to be published by Barclay Creek Press, the following information will help us in making an initial evaluation of it for our list. We encourage you to first contact us with a query letter—either by mail or email—that includes this information but without the sample manuscript or table of contents. If we are interested, we’ll ask to see that additional material.
Overview and summary. Describe the book, what it is about, what approach you take to writing it, any key features, etc. Also give an estimate of total manuscript length.
Audience/market. For whom is the book written? Describe the typical reader.
Competition. Describe any competing or similar books with a brief comparison to yours. Give publisher, copyright date, and sales information, if known.
Author background and qualifications. Provide a brief biography. Explain how you are qualified to write this book.
Table of contents. Provide a table of contents for the proposed book with a couple of sentences describing each chapter.
Sample manuscript. Provide several chapters of the proposed book or, if previously published, samples of similar work.
Schedule. At what stage are you in your writing? What is your expected completion date?
Reviewers. Provide names and contact information for those familiar with your work so that we might contact them for an opinion.
Other. Feel free to offer any other information that may be helpful to us in evaluating your proposal.
SASE. If you wish your material returned, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope of sufficient size and postage. Please do not send us your only copy.
